The Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy is a prestigious research institution that specializes in the study of dynamic systems, robotics, deformable media and ultrasonics. Our institute has its origins in the Traian Vuia Institute of Applied Mechanics established in 1949 by the Romanian Academy. In 1965, the Center for Solid Mechanics worked as an independent research institute. Between 1977 and 1989, the Center was a Department of the Institute of Physics and Materials Technology, belonging to the former National Committee for Nuclear Energy. In 1990 this research Department became the current Institute of Solid Mechanics of the Romanian Academy.
The main objective of the Institute of Solid Mechanics is to conduct fundamental and applied research in the fields of dynamic systems, robotics, deformable media and ultrasonics.
The researchers at the Institute of Solid Mechanics work on a wide range of topics, including:
-
- Modeling and design in automotive domain
- Conception and design of devices with “smart” fluids
- Robotic control algorithms
- Industrial Automation
- Data modelling and machine learning
- Deep learning in Computer Vision
- Robotic Rehabilitation
- Nanomechanics
- Aerospace and Aerodynamics
- Numerical Methods
The institute collaborates with other research institutions and industry partners to develop new materials and technologies that can be applied in various fields, such as :
-
- Aerospace
- Automotive
- IT
- Medical
- Energy
- Manufacturing
- IoT
- Civil engineering, etc.
The institute has a team of highly qualified researchers, including professors, associate professors, senior researchers and PhD students, who use state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to conduct high impact research. The institute offers PhD programs, training and education for students and young researchers who are interested in mechanics, robotics or materials science.
The Institute of Solid Mechanics, also organizes national/international workshops and conferences in collaboration with public and private partners.
